Attracting young people to the industry
We were delighted to see so much interest in the simulator but, most importantly, having this as a feature on our stand prompted some productive conversations about attracting young people into the industry.
We appreciated Barry Dawson from the CITB joining us on the stand, who was able to provide valuable information about apprenticeships and grant funding for employers. We are hopeful that some of these discussions with plant owners will lead to partnerships which will see the SPOA take the simulator back into schools and ultimately lead to apprenticeships with plant owners local to those schools.
Red diesel
As we expected, red diesel was a hot topic of conversation, and we were pleased that businesses came to the stand to speak to us about it and took away hard copies of the guidance ‘Transitioning from red diesel’. It was also encouraging to hear that industry appreciated the effort of the SPOA over the last few months to inform members of the changes and our activity to raise awareness of the issue and lobby for a delay of the implementation of the legislation.
New members
As a result of meetings at ScotPlant and a heightened awareness of the work we do leading up to it, we have been signing up some new members to the Association and over the next few weeks expect to see them all accepted into membership.
There has never been a more important time to support the SPOA, it is YOUR trade association and together we can better represent our industries needs both at on a local basis and at government level. If you have still not joined then you can do so by clicking here.
SPOA members Tom Grant Plant and Scot JCB partnered to produce this fetching pink JCB 245XR to raise funds for the charity Breast Cancer Now.
