March Committee Meeting Update

On Tuesday 14th March we held our third Scottish Plant Owners Association committee meeting of the year.

In addition to our normal hard working committee, we were delighted to welcome a few new faces to the table, these were SPOA members that are interested in joining our committee, they were invited along to see what’s involved.

We welcomed three new members to the SPOA this month: Landform Ltd a Contractor based in Aberdeen, ProtecFM as an Industry Supplier Member and JCB Insurance Services as an Associate Member.

As always there was plenty to discuss, and some firm plans put in place for the rest of the year.  We have confirmed various events and training opportunities which will be released soon – make sure you follow us on our social media to get all the information first.  Watch this space!

We have been busy working on a new Member Pack which was signed off in March and will be sent out to all new members in the next month!

As part of our process of moving to our own dedicated office, we have also made several administrative changes, the most exciting of which will be the launch of a new Membership System, and we are on track for this to be live by the end of March.  This will be a massive moment for the SPOA and will greatly enhance the experience for our members, our ease of communication with you and a dedicated events systems.

A critical role of the SPOA is being a voice for our members, as such we have been working with CITB on improving the facilities for our apprentices, advocating for more apprentice places and tabling various other issues that our members have come to us with.

We are also in regular contact with;

·         Plant Sector Representative Organisation (PSRO)

·         CPCS

·         NPORS

·         European Rental Association (ERA)

If you have any issues or points you would like addressed with any of the above associations please get in touch.

In February and March the SPOA had a fantastic month for publicity, from articles on our Apprentice Awards at the Annual Dinner, the installation of a new machine at the construction college in Inchinnan, the funds we raised for the Aitken & White Memorial Trust & even our President, Callum Mackintosh being recognized for “Outstanding Leadership” at the Trade Association Forum’s Annual Awards.

Finally we scheduled an information session with Rouse Analytics, which will take place on the morning of April 11th at the Cromlix Hotel.  This is an opportunity for senior management in the Scottish Plant Industry, to find out about benchmarking work Rouse has done in the US, how they will be rolling it out in the UK and how it will impact our market.  Places can be booked here.

Out next meeting will take place on Tuesday 11th April – if you have any points that you would like the SPOA to address, any issues / frustrations within the industry that you think we should be addressing then please get in touch.  We can only help with the things we know about.

Thanks for reading.
